Long Snapping Coach Kyle Stelter Lesson with Grant Studer

By: Long Snapping Coach Kyle Stelter

Saturday May 25th I met up with long snapper Grant Studer of Apple Valley Minnesota at East Ridge High School in Woodbury. Grant has been a long snapping student of mine for about a year now and has made leaps in improvements since we first started working!

When Grant and I first started our long snapping lessons he was a freshman in high school and had been long snapping for a while. Grant was a self taught guy who was getting a ball to spiral but it would arch back to the punter and was inaccurate.

Long Snapping Lesson with James Ring

By: Long Snapping Coach Kyle Stelter

Today I met up with James Ring of The Blake High School in MN for our long snapping lesson. James has been improving on his long snapping since the first day we met. At first James had issues with flexibility which limited his ability to get into a proper long snapping stance. After weeks and weeks of flexibility training James came in today being the most flexible I have seen him yet!

We focused today's long snapping lesson on getting into a better stance, and leg lock. James is extremely close to getting perfect leg lock while long snapping however he is still getting a slight hop into his leg drive instead of locking and sliding.

Super Bowl Champion Long Snapper Morgan Cox; Interview with STU

By: Long Snapping Coach Kyle Stelter

Special Teams University was able to catch up with Super Bowl Champion long snapper Morgan Cox of the Baltimore Ravens for an interview.

Q: What is your earliest recollection of snapping a ball?

A: First time I snapped was at a rec league football practice when I was in 5th grade. First try wasn't very good but my dad had me try it again and I did better and was named the team's long snapper. From then on I just always raised my hand when my coaches asked at the beginning of the season who could long snap. I wasn't always first string.

Long Snapping Lesson with James Ring

By: Long Snapping Coach Kyle Stelter

March 24th 2013 I met up with James Ring for a long snapping lesson. James and I have been working for a few months now and you can tell by his long snapping that he has been working hard. If you have read previous posts on James you would know that he came to me as a beginning long snapper. We had to implement everything from the grip to the stance, to the correct motions to go through.

Special Teams University Interviews Philadelphia Eagles Long Snapper Jon Dorenbos

By: Long Snapping Coach Kyle Stelter

Recently Special Teams University was able to catch up with Philadelphia Eagles long snapper Jon Dorenbos to ask him a few questions.

Q: What is your earliest recollection of snapping a ball?

A: My high school coach, Coach Craven, told me I should snap. I messed around with it my Senior year. And I could do it.... but I definitely didn't practice it or take it serious. It got the job done.

After high school I went to a Junior College. I played OLB and some fullback. We had a unbelievable long snapper whose name was Tim Thurman, a 6'6" TE that could snap, really well.

I later added some of his snapping film to my highlighted tape and sent it to colleges. I ended up getting a full ride to University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP Miners) because of it. Being that the snapper wasn't me on the tape, That's when I started taking snapping serious.
